IIRC, Belle of Beauty and the Beast. She is just a commoner. One could also argue that the American Indians did not have true royalty; hence Pocahontas could not have been a true princess.

I believe only Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, and the Little Mermaid are the only ones who were princesses from the start.

Belle from Beauty & the Beast wasn't born a princess.

Neither is Mulan--in fact, she never becomes a princess.

Cinderella was not a princess either, she became one after marrying Prince Charming.

I don't know which other Disney characters they consider princesses, but those are the ones I know of.

Well...let's examine, shall we? Snowhite? Born royal, treated like dirt...Cindy...born to the upper class, marries into the royal family. Aurora was born a royal and marries a royal. Jasmine...again, born royal...marries a commoner, technically speaking. Belle starts off like you and me, marries up. Mulan...NOT a princess. Ariel...born royal, marries a royal...
So...those are the "big ones".

Of the canonical Disney Princesses...

Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, and Jasmine are all princesses by birthright.

Cinderella and Belle marry into royalty and become princesses.

Mulan is neither born royalty nor does she marry into a royal family; so she is not a princess.

Pocahontas is the daughter of a chief. In common American parlance, she may be referred to as an Indian princess (as in Poc. II) because of her father's status; but that's not really accurate; and the terminology is falling out of favor. She's not a princess.

With the proposed release of The Frog Princess in 2009, Maddie will also be included as one of the canonical Disney Princesses. Since the movie has not been released, her status as a true princess is unknown; but rumors about the movie's plot indicate that she is not born a princess, though she may marry a prince.

Of the non-canonical Disney Princesses (those who show up up certain Disney Princess merchandise but aren't listed by Disney as such)...

Mei, Ting-Ting, and Su (Mulan II) are princesses by birthright.

Nala could be considered a princess (if you believe that the lions in the movie actually are like real lions in terms of intra-pride relationships then she's Mufasa's daughter); but she is never referred to as such. She does become a queen; but most would say that she is not a princess.

Megara is not born a princess nor does she marry a prince.

Maid Marian, though a cousin of royalty, is not a princess nor does she marry a prince.

Tinkerbell is not a princess nor does she marry a prince.
