How does the lotions work? Like do you just put it on like before you shower or something and let it dry? and then go take a shower like a hour later? If yes, then doesnt that mean you have to walk around naked for an hour? And if not, then how does it work? I heard it stains your sheets & smells horrible..

i would recommend loreal sublime bronze, it comes in an aerosol, which you spray on the rub in, it is very easy to use, and gives realistic results, and doesn't look fake. But with any self tanners if you touch them they will also color your hands, I suggest washing hands with soap immediately after applying it. You do have to let this dry...usually takes about 10-15 mins, it wont come off on sheets or clothing, and last for 7-10 days without washing off, might become gradually lighter over the days. Shower and bathe and shave as normal it will not affect your tan unless you scrub really hard or something. I love the stuff! you can get this at wal-mart, target, kmart, ect..

I like neutrogena build-a-tan. I buy it at walgreens. It tans the skin gradually so you can apply it as frequently as you want depending on how deep of a tan you want. It is very subtle. You apply it after you shower then wait like five minutes and then you can dress and go. You do have to wash your hands after you apply it but I've never had mine turn orange. A bronzer is like makeup for your skin that makes it look tan. It can come in lotion form, and there are also some self-tanning lotions that contain a bronzer as well, so when you apply the lotion it acts as a makeup so your legs look tan right away, but at the same time it is also gradually tanning your skin.

It does have a distinctive smell... I wouldn't call it horrible but it is "different".

well girly if you want something that will actually make you have a tan and not just a slight slight "glow" then you need an actual tanner, not a moisturizing buildup one. My favorite is St. Tropez tanning mousse(at bath and body). its very easy to apply, dries quick, and I dont have any streaks!
1. you need to shower and exfoliate your skin (mostly i just do my legs and arms) this doesn't need to be done RIGHT before you tan, i do it the morning of the day i tan (i tan before i go to bed)
2. Evenly apply the mousse with tight gloves (found at walmart)
3. Then I put on victorias secret bronzed babe tanner (in the orange bottle) on top of the mousse to ensure that there are no streaks. That way if there was a spot i missed the lighter tanning lotion i put on evens it out.
4. Then I literally wait maybe 5 minutes before getting dressed. It feels a little like it isn't dry at first, but it wont stain your clothes, and it doesn't mess up my tan. Make sure after you remove the gloves to put a little tanner on your hands.

Hope this helps. I also really like airbrush tanning (about 20-25 dollars), but its kinda expensive to maintain, and I found that when it fades its a little uneven.

I have pale skin also and I love this one called body drench, whipped chocolate. It smells wonderful and doesn't turn out orange or have that funky smell that a lot of lotion tanners do. And it comes out as a foam and goes on smooth. And works great to build up a tan. That's the only way I can have tan legs! And it makes a difference to exfoliate before you put it on. You can usually buy it at beauty supplys. (If you have an Ed Wyse beauty supply?) Of have them order it for you. And you can go online also.

Fake Bake is really nice, it's an overnight lotion you wear. You have to apply it wearing latex gloves, and a little goes a long way! At first you'll look like you rolled in mud. However, after it dries in the morning, and after you shower it looks totally natural! Not shocking or nasty. It takes patience, but it's worth it.

L'oreal makes a great one that I like called "Sublime Bronze"; Neutrogena's is also pretty good. If you use one with a bronzer in it you can see where you're putting it and rub it in to avoid streaking. Wash your hands right afterward though (or use latex gloves when you apply it.)

I heard Banana Boat Sun Dial works really well, isn't messy and dosn't leave you smelling all day...and the color is nice, not yellow or orange, but a nice bronze color. That's what I heard. Good Luck! ;]

I saw it on the evening news that they are all the same...it's some kind of sugar that is giving you the color...and all the self tanning lotions contain the same sugar.

L'oreal bronzer. No streaks and no orange tint. I've used it for 3 summers now.
