I admit that how people are parented has a lot to do with what they're like as adults, but we have to remember that parents are not the only influence on children. There's teachers, friends, society, media, etc. I don't think that if someone turns out "good" or "bad" it is necessarily completely attributable to the parents.

I think they DEFINITELY influence them. Either for the better or the worse, but this may just mean that a child decides they don't want to be like their parents--that they want to be better. Sometimes really good parents have rebellious, troubled kids. This doesn't necessarily mean they are bad parents either. Once kids enter their teens they leave their parents behind as the most influential group in their lives and their peers become even more important. Not that parents don't matter of course, its just that kids start to branch away as they become begin to grow up and become independent.

yes because the choices your kids make are based directly from how you treated them when they were children. Not so much what you told them or taught them, but how you treated them!
