I broke up with my ex a couple of months ago and is it shady or stupid to get back two items that I gave him as a gift?

No, it's not shady or stupid. When I was dating my husband, I used to tell him that if we ever broke up I was going to take back everything I ever gave him. I said it jokingly, but I meant it! Of course, I had a key to his house back then. But seriously, since they were given as gifts, not loans, let him have them and try to forget about it.

i dont know what to call it, but it is wrong!! those were gifts that you gave him while you two were in a relationship!! to prove your affection for eachother, so honestly why would you want that back( do you want to be reminded of thise days) i mean its a gift you dont ask for gifts back when that wasnt your intention on the first place. just leave it alone whats done is done so just let it go and move on. you wouldnt like anyone asking you for the gifts they gave you back!!

Maybe not shady or stupid but it is wrong to ask for a gift you gave.

By your own admission, they were GIFTS. You can't get something back that was a gift. If you had loaned him the money to buy the two things and had proof it was a loan, then you can get it back through small claims court. Otherwise you can kiss it goodbye. Gifts are just that. They are his until he decides to get rid of them.

No, you do not ask to have gifts you have given returned. Perhaps this experience will help you learn to be wise in your choice of boyfriends and in the gifts you give.

Once you give a gift, it no longer belongs to you. He is under no obligation to return gifts. Forget the stuff, and move on.

And did he buy you gifts? If so, than they'd need to go back as well. Think about it. That should help you decide.

Yes it is tacky, I mean you can't be a Indian giver, what are you going to do with the things you gave him? pound them? give them to your new love? gifts are things that are meant for the person to whom you gave to at the time when you both cared for each other, and they should be with that person unless he gives them back to you.

You can't get them back. You gave them as gifts, they are HIS.

I would say yes, they were gifts. They are no longer yours to take back
