A question for all you married ladies out there -- what makes your wedding ring special/important to you? If lost or destroyed and an identical replacement were available would such a replacement suffice? Why/Why not?

It's special because it is. It just is.
If lost, a replacement would be ok--our marriage is greater than a ring.

The wedding ring is a symbol of the vows exchanged between a couple. If lost or destroyed, a person would have no choice but to accept an identical replacement; after all, the original isn't an option.

My wedding ring is special to me because I designed it and had it made. My husband's is identical to mine. They are the only two rings like them in the world. If one of them was lost or destroyed, I would have a replacement made just like the old one. A ring is a ring, and even though it does have sentimental value, it's only a symbol of what my husband and have together. Our marriage matters more than a ring, so I'd get over losing it. I'd probably more angry about having to pay the money all over again that anything else. I'm not that sentimental about things, though. I like nice things and I like unique things, but I value my relationships with my husband, family and friends more.

My wedding ring is special to me because it's not actually a wedding ring...it's a friendship ring. My husband, who I was just friends with at the time, bought it years ago for me at the Base Exchange at Andrew's Air Force Base. We were shopping there with two friends whom we drove up to DC for their wedding. I found the ring (black hills gold with a pink rose in the middle), he bought it behind my back and surprised me with it. When we were planning the wedding, some 3 years later, I decided I didn't want him to spend money on an expensive new diamond ring to use as the wedding ring. Instead, we bought a cheap diamond ring ($100 or so) to use as the "engagement" ring, then my friendship ring was used in the wedding as my wedding band. If I ever lost it, or it ever got destroyed, I'd be devastated, but if I were to find an exact copy, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

My wedding ring is totally special, because my husband chose it, and it's a symbol of our marriage. It was blessed at our wedding by the three priests who conducted the ceremony.
If something happened to it, of course I would want the same one. It's modest, but is special.

My wedding ring is special to me because my husband picked it out just for me! It was a surprise! I could not help but cry. He is sooo sweet!

no it wouldn't. because to me the first ones is the ones we said our vows to under god. and i take my vows very much to heart. also the engagement ring is something i always had my boyfriends pick out because i wanted it to be all from them and their heart so i was very happy with both sets. (i should explain huh) i was married 2 times so i had a set from my first hubby and one from my second hubby and both of them picked out the engagement and wedding bands. so yes i would be very very upset if i lost mine and no i would not want one that looks just like it, i would want the original sets. but again that is me. :)
