Technically you cant. Its heartbreaking, I know, especially if its someone you truly care about. All you can really do is try to show them the benefits of getting help, and keeping a line of communication open if they ever need you.

Help them to help themselves and show them by example. perhaps their problem is far more deep routed. By your question, its difficult to know that, but its not uncommon for people to close out the real world because something more sinister is going on in their heads. Depression and the lack of will perhaps is just the tip of the iceberg. Need more information here but yeah,,,, Help them to help themselves and show them by example is a good start, if you care, you will, if they care about you, they will to, only you have to make them realize that too. I would really like to be more helpful here. Edx

Show that its not hard for them to help themself and the benefits of helping themselves. It has to originate from within though.

You can't....and the time you spend worrying is time you can never get back.
Look into Al-Anon...even if it isn't drug abuse that's the problem...I've learned a lot from the Al-Anon literature.
You can let go without giving up,
detach with love, etc.
But ultimately you can't live anyone's life for them, even if you know you'd do a better job!

the best way to help someone -------is not to help, as hard as it is, but they already know they can fall back on you , so why would they help themself.
