engines will always fluctuate in temperature, no matter what kind. it all depends on your thermostat settings for when your fans turn on, and how efficient your radiator is. unless you see MAJOR, like almost to redzone fluctuations, youre fine, its just the nature of the beast. remember, an engine runs on controlled explosions!!!!

If it is running hotter than it was before the tune up, then something has changed. maybe it was running cool, before, and your mechanic fixed it . Maybe it was running on only 3 cyllenders and now that its running on 4, its warmer. Maybe he lost a rag down in front of the radiator and its blocking the air flow. Maybe he adjusted the timing.
Is it still in the appropriate operating temp zone and what it the actual collent temp?. Take it back an ask for an explanation.

GM cars are nortorious for for having inaccurate gauges. An '02 Chev Cavalier should run around 200 to 210 degrees Farenheit. Anything over that, you got a problem. I would suggest that you get an after market temp. gauge.
