The ladies basketball team started this! They wanted attention, and in doing so it got a man fired. Of course his qoute wasnt "nice" but have you ever listened to rap? not the music the words (much worse then what Imus said) Get over it! imus was the cold front, without the heat there would be no storm!

YUMMY, you will buy rap that disrespects a large majority of people, but when someone makes one bad statment you are willing to work and protest to get him fired? Whats wrong?

I totally agree. Don Imus does more (by way of charities, etc.) than most rappers do and surprisingly, when they say the stuff they say, its described as 'poetic' or simply not offensive because among each other, its a 'term of endearment.' Like... get real. If you want to get rid of racism, then get rid of the double standard. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If they dont like hearing it coming from us, what makes them think we like hearing it coming from them, no matter who its directed at.

No, Imus didn't start hatred and bigotry. It's been around for centuries. I'm glad that finally something has started to be done about offensive language. Now if they'll continue till they get rid of dirty rap and hip-hop and then take all the vulgar, profane language out of the TV shows and the movies we'll all be better off.

Explain to me how they started it? If they want to wear tattoos and headbands so what? Those are their bodies and they are responsible for them.
Research and know what you are talking about before you speak. Many types of music have been known to use unsavory terms in reference to females. Some even say they are using the term in an empowering manner. You can not lay blame of the phenomena to one race or type of music.
Research and know what you are talking about before you speak. There are several organizations that are speaking out against the violence and sexism in music specifically hip hop. There have been groups speaking out against Gangsta Rap and Hip Hop since they took a violent turn from general expression of your world to sometimes glorifying of a violent lifestyle. There are positive attributes in the Hip Hop community. There are positive rappers and poets but they are not as promoted because they are seen as profitable. Most of the money made in Hip Hop is made from white youth. The same thing that got Imus fired can be used to get some of these song off the air and stop them from being made. Follow the money. If you really feel its a problem join an organization or start your own. Everyone has to take a stand against violent and raunchy lyrics and video because it effects us all but we can't label a whole genre or music wrong and degenerate or blame it for the worlds problems. We are responsible for what comes out of our mouths.

Shame on CBS and MSNBC for firing Don Imus in there attempt to distance themselves from a far bigger problem.
Shame on Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson for only being offended when Don Imus and the Rutgers female basketball team are involved.
The problem of racial intolerance is nothing new, it happens across all ethnic lines to some degree or another. If your willing to tolerate it in lyrics of rap artist, from comedians, your next door neighbor, your boss, in any form at all. No one should be surprised when an old relic like Don Imus or others make these types of remarks.

I, like you, disagree with the man being fired but how does Imus' comments correlate with rap. All types of music (country, pop) have "I'm a *****, I'm a lover", unsavory lyrics, PLEASE explain the correlation? Or does each type of music give the okay to put down a group of women?

I agree! He made a bad quote and he should have been repremanded but to lose his career over it? That really sucks. All this rap crap I find terribly offensive but I'm not out there causing a big todo over it. I simply turn the knob to something I do like. No one is making me listen to it. AND no one was making them listen to him.

Imus needed to be fired. Imus is held up nationally as a political spokesperson. He often has political guests on his program and frequently has political discussions. He represents a white majority population that in the not too distant past, horribly repressed the Black population. To allow a man like Imus to promote racism on such a forum is to allow the potential for the abject racism and repression of our past to begin to creep back into our society.
Racism is a right-wing attribute (which is quite obvious on this forum) and Imus speaks to that audience. He knew his audience would appreciate those comments and he was more than willing to cater to their racist whims. A decent society must put a man like Imus and his right-wing Archie Bunker followers in their place.
