Some of the answers are almost correct. Uranus was indeed a greek mythological character who had power over the heavens, but he wasn't a god. He was the first ruler of all (Gaia being the first "being", gave birth to Uranus). His children were the Titans, lead by Cronus. The Titans gave way to the "standard" greek gods (Zeus and the others).

Uranus was the name of a Titan from Greek Mythology. Not an Olympian God. The Titans came before the Olympian Gods and most of them were killed.

Originally the planet was named after the Greek God of the Sky "ur-uh-ness" not "your anus."
But, like a lot of other things, pronounciation usually goes by English terms and most kids now laugh when they hear "uranus" or spell it.
