Honda is probably the best but also the most expensive. i would go with the most horsepower for the price. bang for the buck. good luck

Briggs and Stratton all the way.More reliable, parts availability, easy of maintenance and endurance.
9 hp with Comet 40 series drive clutch.
Got one on my mid 1970s three wheeler Dune Cycle.
Bugger does about 45mph.

.

Tecumseh has poor aluminum quality and constant carburetor float and needle issues. The carburetor ports plug up to easily and replacement carburetors run around $90.

Honda has a very good engine, but the valves need adjusting often, they tend to blow head gaskets, and they're a serious pain to work on.

Robin is hard to find parts. Good engine, heavy though.

For that kind of usage, your best bet is a 3 HP Briggs and Stratton for low/child weight carts and a nice 5 HP (or more) Honda for higher/adult weights. The B&S motor will chew up filters and plugs quick though, so check it often.

Corvair engine possibly. 6 Cly horizontally opposed. They are used in a lot of aircraft and sand buggies. Quite small, can be found with a turbo. They are quite cheap and easily accessible.
may be high to maintain.
