i just bought some expensive waterbed sheets, 200 count percale 50/50 and they are kinda rough. i washed them and treated them with downey, but still pretty rough. i can't send them back because i washed them, can i? any tricks to make them softer?

yes you can take them back with a receipt.
tell them they shrunk.
now take the money and get some sheets that are higher thread count 200's suck. the higher the T. count the softer they are. get the highest you can afford.
In fact the first high T I got was at Good will. People that are sick of their stuff or had a nasty break up just give it away. and you just learned a very good lesson about sheets!

A 200 count percale fabric will stay stiffer than cotton ones but will last much longer. You may have to wash it several times before it softens. Also, instead of using a liquid softener, try throwing in two or even three fabric softerner sheets into the dryer with the fabric.

I think after washing them a few mores times they will get softer and then the wear of them just being used will also make them even softer.

They will soften with repeated washings. Run them through
the washer a few times, then dry with dryer sheets.

all new fabrics are like that use them and wash them often. nest time go for the 160 count if you wanted soft.
