I realize that the reason I get nervous when I hear the phone ring is because about a year ago everytime the phone would ring it would be someone calling to inform us that someone had died, so now everytime I hear a phone ring especially late at night, I get nervous because I think it is because someone had died. Now that I know the cause what do I do from here?

Answer the phone and say, Who died? They will get the hit to call for other reasons than bad new.

You have to condition yourself to associate the phone with equally positive events as well. Begin by having a family member or friend make planned phonecalls to you, just to tell you a joke or chat. Then reduce it to random calls, so that you get a pleasant surprise. You need to associate it with positive things too.

I don't know how to help you, but I can definitely relate. The worst I've gotten was about my uncle collapsing, but those midnight calls always scare me out of my wits. I guess It's all in the way you think. Just tell yourself you are certain everyone's okay and try to believe it's fine.

Hope I helped!
