Well I liked Tomb Raider and the Resident Evil movies. But the rest of the sucked big time !!!. Super Mario is a gay azzed movie. But the worst video game movie of all time was BloodRayne..that movie sucked big time. A vampire movie where she walks around in daylight and no blood !!! .

well i can provide a good opinion considering i dont play video games and never know these movies are based on them (outside of mario and mortal combat).

based on movie enjoyment alone i say most of them are decent ESPECIALLY now that special fx are getting better.

Street Fighter -was a classic when i was young.
mario bros-i dont remember but i dont think i liked it
Silent hill -was good. i could care less what was going on with the girl tho the effects are what kept me interested.
Mortal Kombat -was ok
Doom -was great for its genre.
Tomb Raider -was fantastic. both.
Res Evil- didnt do it for me. The first was tolerable but the rest suck. and they could be so much scarier. after i saw the movie i watched the game and was way more freaked.

based on their own merit i think there are some greats and some stinkers overall i think they should keep doing it. some of these games have great stories behind them and a lot of movie potential.

taken on an individual basis, some are good, some are awful.

because i go to see them knowing i'm not there to see "The English Patient," i think i get my money's worth more than half the time. i can sit down with a bucket of popcorn and a drink and have a good ol' time.

my personal opinion--by far the best films have been the Resident Evils. yeah, the movie plots diverge drastically from the video games (especially the next one) but these films really deliver in terms of the kind of action i'm willing to pay for.

and that jovovich lady is not too hard on the eyes either...which then brings me to the Underworld series which isn't based on a video game but sports another attractive, butt kicking, enhanced female (beckinsale).

i think i'm detecting a pattern here...

uh, what was the original question again?

Most movies that are video games first suck. I don't think I have actually liked one. I don't even waste my time watching them. They usually have some crappy plot that waaaaay inconsistent with the actual video game plot.

I did hear they were going to make a Gears of War movie. As well as this video game did, I would hope the creators do not allow them to completely ruin their game.

The guy who directed some of these horrible movies, such as Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark, is Uwe Boll. Hopefully they won't allow him to touch any more video game movies ever again. :)

Edit: I spoke too soon! He will also be directing Far Cry! Yay!

I dont know which came out first, even though the movie does show the arcade version of it.

But 1982's TRON all though not a huge hit in theatres, due to the work done to make the movie was probably the best video game based movie ever.

Also because its a cornerstone in movie making.
