I feel very sorry for the way they are treated in society. Your own words are already pretty harsh, and can you imagine doing something that you enjoy, that you have built into a career the same way a business woman might create a career with her skills, that many people love you in, and still get spit on in the street, called names, and overall just treated badly . . . even by people who consume your product?!?
I like porn stars. Every time I talk to one, hear interviews with them or read something they've written, I'm generally impressed with their spirits and outlooks- they are open-minded people who are pretty downtrodden. I'd much rather befriend a porn star than an uptight person who felt the need to put others down and pass judgement.
For the men and women who have been hurt by the industry (and there are many out there who have), I feel deep sympathy and I'm sorry for them. But porn isn't necessarily harmful, psychologically damaging, emotionally stunting, physically taxing, or any of the other things they say it is- most porn stars feel positive about their careers, suffer no ill effects other than society's treatment of them, and are generally happy. I have the deepest respect for porn stars, sex workers, and others who work in perhaps the most important but ignored aspect of human life, filling a need that has huge demand. Way back in the days of ancient Greece and before, prostitutes were considered sacred priestessess- what they did was a holy act. It's sad the way our attitudes have changed.
I doubt that will change your mind, but I tried. You should try looking up some women-produced, women-oriented porn that is sex-positive and truly is a empowering experience . . . Carol Queen, Shar Redenour, Annie Sprinkle, Tristan Taormino, and so many others are porn stars who I not only respect, but nearly idolize.

There are many guys who would love to be porn stars. All that sex with attractive women looks pretty good to them.
And many men who watch porn movies admire various female porn stars and are often their devoted and loyal fans.
Perhaps this is why many women choose to have a career in porn. Being admired is nice. And the money is nice too.

Each to their own, I guess. Though I do find stuff like child and animal/human pornography to be absolutely vile, and people who make and trade such stuff should face the death penalty.
