They call it FAITH.
Good luck with that "beings from another planet and hypnotizing you" thing. You have lots of company.

I'm not going to be hard on you, or rip on you for your comments like everyone else has. The only reason for this is because I think everybody should be able to express their own opinions, or lack thereof in your case, without judgement. But that's neither here nor there....anyway, getting to my point. I think that the reason why human beings created the idea of God is this: It's not an issue of trying to fool people into believing phony propaganda, or any such nonsense like that. It's just that we, as humans, want to feel like we have a force that's greater than all of us overseeing what we do. Someone, or something, that is guiding us through our paths in life, or can set us straight if we stray. It's a need to feel safe and taken-care-of, I believe. Like we're not alone, destened to drift forever in a void of nothingness that we call life. Just to know that it's not all for nothing. That there is "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak. Ahh, the wonder of the eternal optimists on this planet. Amazing, is it not? And slightly admirable, if you ask me, because I am a steadfast reallist. Sometimes I wish I had rose-tinted glasses!

First of all there is a God...how else would you be able to explain Humanity...do you think you evolved from the ocean or better yet a monkey ...excuse me an ape!
If the human race evolved then it's plausible to say that we are still evolving...what do you think we are going to become next?
God made man, the earth, the animals, etc.
Just because there are similarities between apes and humans does not mean we evolved from them...the alligator and the crocodile are very similar but yet they are not the same...
Mans biggest problem is that his believing lies within his own eyes.
You have more senses than just sight, sound and touch.
Feel, look, and listen with your own heart God will reveal himself to you and I say your OWN HEART because there are a lot of people out there that have turn religion into a big money making thing. Use good judgment and common sense when confronted with the enemy. (no cults, no brain washing Jim Jones wanna be's) No the difference between Gods' rules and the Churchs' rules.
Secondly, about those aliens your damn right they're here and they've got drivers licenses too. :)
God bless you and continue to ask questions...

One day you may wake up and realize that life is without meaning or purpose. After a while, you then think that the only thing with true staying power in this life is money, and lots of it. Then somewhere down the line, something doesn't go your way. And you find out this blow is not going to let you get back up. You lose things slowly at first this and then more rapidly. You become depressed and desparate. Then you are given some kindness, for no reason at all.

The first thing you have to realize is that religion is only minimally connected to Diety. If you look around, you might notice that most Churches preach one thing, then do another.
Sad to say, many people are willing to assume the infallibilty expect of a (real or imagined ) diety, also belongs to the man made, self-centered, ego driven Business of their choice, no matter how far it strays (child molesters) from the teaching they claim to follow.
Now, to the core of your question, why do people create Gods (and of course Goddesses).
The simple answer is fear. Fear of 'what happens to my loved ones or myself after death', fear of natural catastrophies, and fear of the neighboring tribe.
Freud suggests that religion also srpings from the void left in our lives when our Father is found out to be less then perfect, and all powerful. At this point, wishing for the return of a giant perfect protector creates a mental pressure relieved in many of us by the creation of a 'God.'.
I have to say, it seems pretty compelling, and it fits in nicely with the fear angle discussed previously.
The jump from an individuals wish fulfillment, to a ploy for wealth, power, (and little boys) doesn't really need explaining. It is human nature to strive for our own best interest, we simply loose focus when we've passed the point where 'more' continues be good for us, leading to the abuse of others for your own weath. (Gas companies)
As to your theory of aliens, I guess it makes about as much sense as a diety that helps people get freethrows, while ignoring staring children, and pre-teen girls forced into prostitution.
Go figger....

I don't believe in a god. I follow science since it can be proven. when a god presents itsself, then I'll believe it. but until then I'm not gonna hold my breath. Some people need to feel a reason why they are here and a god gives them hope that they have come from a higher being. I'm happy in my life and have absolutely no need or want for a god.

Mankind has a predisposition to make up dieties. Man is a unique creature in that he has a conscious awareness of his changes in his environment. So, we assume that all changes in our environment come from conscious manipulation. Its simply a matter of personification from this point. When we see something we don't understand, we make the leap of faith that it is some "personalized force" of nature (i.e. a diety) that is causing that change.
The more we understand about our environment, the less these superstitions become necessary. But, by the process of evolution, we are predispositioned to personify that which we don't understand.

I can't honestly imagine a person considering themselves intelligent, and being able to make comments like these. I can't even imagine such a person really knowing what Philosophy is. What an insult to wisdom to have such person convince you that they are right.

"this has not been said to glorify me,but to glorify god so that you may believe and be saved."

I believe in God and he's not stupid, and he's definitley not an idea, God is just, and he loves you. How do you think that everything got here, and how do you explain miracles, i don't know how you people go through each day w/o the prayer and reassurance that God gives me each day.
