Don't listen to these jokers - holy crap.

"WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service reminds individual taxpayers that they can request an automatic six-month filing extension. An extension grants extra time for filing the tax return only, not for paying any taxes due. Taxpayers will owe interest on any past due tax and may be subject to a late payment penalty if payment is not made by the original due date of the return.

The request must be made by the due date of the return, which is April 17, 2007. Individuals should use Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, to get the automatic six-month extension."

So as long as you are sure the Gov't owes you, all you have to do is mail in form 4868 by the 17th and that buys you 6 more months PENALTY FREE to get your return filled out and filed. You can still get the 6 months extension if you owe Uncle Sam, you just have to make an estimated payment to the Gov't by Apr 17th, and file the full return within six months.

Now get off your fat posterior and file that return.

PS: You can download form 4868 right off the IRS's website.

It has to be post marked by the 17th of April. If it's not then you have to pay a penalty for late filing. You still have a couple of days so get going.

As long as it is postmarked on or before the 17th you should be fine.

(They extended it due to Emancipation Day in Washington DC. You may see April 16th printed on the forms.)

And yes, you can also file an extension if you choose.
