Christianity turned people away from civic duty, worldly matters, etc. to religous duty, otherworldly matters, etc. This led to a decline in military ( less glory seeking) and in the economy ( less interst in aquireing wealth). WIth the populations loyalties divided between god and the empire the composition of the armies changed to heavily favor mercenaries without the disciplin ( or loyalty) of the legions during romes golden years ( 96-180 AD ( not BC, sorry)). Furthur, the size of the empire was two great for the communication technology of the time, when you couple slow response time, with buracratic bloat, you have an inefficient empire. Couple this inefficiency with a poor military that is more likely to be interested in their own province than Rome a thousand miles away and you have a formula for trouble.
The US doesn't have these problems, communication is instant and people are becomeing more worldly rather than less. On the otherhand, the US does have the same bloated buracracy ( and increasing corruption) and decline in civil loyalty ( though largly becuase of the questionable morality of goverment action rather than reliigon).

I was watching the Science channel the other day, and they had a scientist on with a very plausible sounding theory. They told about how popular wine was among the emperors and the upper class. The wine makers of the time used to flavor the brew by boiling down grape juice to a thick sweet sauce that was then added to the wine. They know there were many cases of dementia among the upper crust, including they believe, many of the emperors Nero and Caligula among them. The reason drinking wine caused dementia and early death more than drinking water was because grapes have acid which, especially after boiling the grapes down, eked the lead, which was known to be in their pipes and pots out into the brew, which then brought about led poisoning and dementia. That probably wasn't the only reason they say, but it was definitely a big contributer.

They switched to christianity to try to maintain control thats why. The same thing will happen to the united states and all other government for that matter. All through history they are falling and rising. Evolution???? You die so your kids can improve on the mess you made while you were here.

the roman empire fell because of Christianity.
the same way the pagan druids fell.
God has a plan, though we, as interested beings that we are,
we also are destined to fall.
the holy bible, the quran, the Koran all instruct us on how to live, how to love and how to be. But only Jesus walked that walk. i can't remember ever a time when mohamed in his teachings told us to hate.trade your swords into plow shares. people helping people. how hard is that,?

They over stretched themselves. Too big of an empire. In those days it was very hard to properly over see and make sure things were running as they should in all the provinces.
