Canada, United States, and Mexico make up North America. Oops forgot Greenland and Iceland. Anything below Mexico become Central America which I do believe is part of South America.

I think of Canada and the USA as North America; Mexico to Venezuela as Central America; and the rest as South America. Really, though, everything North of Venezuela is in North America.

I think of North America as including not only Canada/US/Mexico but Central America as well, considering that anything north of the Panama Canal could be geographically considered part of North America. However it depends on the context - if someone was talking about NAFTA, I'd think they were talking about Mexico/US/Canada only. If someone was talking about the Anglo culture of North America, I'd consider that to be Canada/the US only.
