You probably have a yeast infection.
Usually when you get brown discharge, its dried blood making its way out. Sometimes when you get a yeast infection, your vagina can become so irritated it bleeds a bit way up inside. No big deal - get some Monistat or Canestin. If this is your first experience with this, I would first go to the doc just to make sure its not a bacterial infection.

Brown discharge is completely normal. I get that at the end of all my periods.. I call it the "ick stage" lol.

But if your getting this when your not on your period it could be spotting or breakthrough bleeding. Or.. an infection, and in that case I would suggest you see your doctor.

Always follow up with your GYN for questions like that. It could be quite ordinary, but it's also possible it's the beginning of something that needs treatment. That's why your doctor has to see you, check the lining of your uterus, and other possibilities. Until you can get in to see the doctor, keep track of any other symptoms you may have to help him or her with your diagnosis. Also, don't worry yourself over this, worry is not good for you, okay?
