Although I sympathize with your frustration, I don't think that a ban on religion is the answer. I'm more inclined to think that a free society must uphold the rights of all people to believe as they wish.

I would be in favor of taxing religions as businesses. and of broader public educational support for factually known truths to be commonly understood... I'm thinking of the kind of thing that would very likely undermine the ill-taught ideas that are touted by some of the major religions. An example might be directed toward exposing the mis-belief that people are gifted by a spiritual soul which lives on after death.... This religiously-loaded idea is completely unfounded and ought to be identified by our responsible governments as being so. Perhaps if it were pursued with the ernest equal to that which has been applied against the use of tobacco, it might make a difference over time.

Banning anything usually leads to difficulties unseen - undergrounds, back-lash political splinter groups and such. I see a ban as a destablizing step in society and nothing better. Certainly there is another way, a better way, to help divest people of their religious dilusions.

Good luck on that one considering the worlds majority of population is one faith or another. So then who is really trying to push their beliefs on others? Secondly if you really think banning religion would stop war then I have some prime beach property in Florida I'd like to sell ya. Thirdly do you not think you would need to use force and some form of brutality to effectively try and stop people. Fourth; if you had thought it through history seems to show that creating martyr's has a great way of increasing followers. Finally before trying and destroying someones belief you would have to effectively show a a society who had replaced religion with something better. Who would you propose to use as such an example, The former Soviet Union or China, or North Korea or Cuba?

Danny: Let's be more objective about the question presented by you. Firstly; has every war REALLY been about "religion" ? ... Are you sure ? Stalin of Russian Communism fame murdered millions, as did both, Pol Pot ("Killing Fields") and occultic Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party of WW II renown. "Religion" would also, encompass, $, careers, drugs, sex, booze, sports, education, etc. etc. - as these all require ritualistic adherence. When you make such a statement as this, you need to consider this. Anything, outside or apart from God IS a religion. Spirituality is another issue !!!

banning religion... well if i had my way and no consious then yes. I'm athiest, so i don't really believe in such things, but i do think religion is a waste of time. Though I do really respect the people who can be so loyal and intrested in something that is so hard to believe in (god/satan). Religion is also (i agree) the cause of most of the worlds wars.

Liquor was banned. Drugs were banned, May as well ban sex and religion.
You only ban what could be banned effectively. How would you police a religion ban ? Close the churches, the people will worship in their homes. Watch the homes. The people will pray silently to themselves.
It's impossible to ban a belief or a thought. Be practical.

There have been many conflicts that had nothing to do with religion. The Iraq invasion for example (oil, anyone?). Yes, religion can be and is used for brainwashing but there are many good, intelligent religious poeple out there.

Dont know about the brainwash but I do agree most wars are fought around religion of some kind, so as a Catholic I would say I'm born a Catholic and would like a blessing when I die so maybe we should look to the leaders , like BUSH , BLAIR AND THE MAD CLERIC WHO WAS JUST SENT TO AFGANISTAN

I don't mean to be rude, but there are atheist cliches that do merit the term "idiotic". World War I was not a religious war. World War II was not a religious war. Or Vietnam,or Korea,or Iraq. I think you'd have to go pretty far back to find a "religious war". As far as banning religion,Stalin did his best. I'm sure any atheist would do the same, burn every temple church mosque they could lay their little claws on then butcher all the believers Christian,Jewish,Muslim,Bahai,Hindu, probably even new agers I mean hell why not. I'm sure you lust for the usual bloodbath,oh man 'o peace. Banning a religion generally involves mass murder and lots of burnings and whatnot. Bet you'd dig it,wouldn't you?

Every war? Your question and your self-congratulatory attitude both just come across as silly. How would religion be banned anyway? At it's most basic level, any religion is utterly personal and private.

Certainly not. The constitutions of most countries provide for freedom of worship/religion. The individual should have a choice.
