I am very nervous about taking my road test. I dont feel very confident infact I am scared. I have been in a car accident 10 years ago standing at the bus stop and when I see cars turn by me, or speed it makes me scared. I want to get my liscense but I am so scared. I called a driving school and the guy told me to come in and take my 5 hour class then we will schedule a road test. I felt shocked because I thought they would schedule a road test when you are atleast confident and they know you know how to drive. I really wanted to see if I like how he instructed me because I had one instructor who I drove with a few times but when my bf came in the car with me that is when he told me what I had to do to pass the test- Things I did the first day was suddenly wrong and he corrected them. So I am very nervous I dont want to be wasting my money anymore. What should I do?

Hi, I think that the problem you have is not with driving. I feel that this is a serious anxiety issue, possibly post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I would know because I have one too. I would strongly recommend speaking with a psychiatrist about the problem, and they will tailor a treatment plan that will help you cope with anxiety as well as learn to differeniate between irrational and reasonable fears. I recommend looking into several treatment plans. One is cognitive behavioral therapy. Another great one is guided imagery and visualization. Also try breathing exercises (I have a breating exercise regimen that I do twice a day), yoga, tai-chi, etc. Acupuncture has been helpful for me. A treatment that is supposed to be most effective is biofeedback training. I cannot say because it is too expensive for me, but I would do it if I was ever presented the opportunity. I strongly recommend checking out anything by Dr. Andrew Weil, he is the best. The breathing exercises he suggests are the ones that I do. I hope that this information helps and that you can overcome these fears so that you can live with more freedom.

e Hi this is ted.
I have been driving sense I was 12 yrs. old. My dad said here are the keys go. Of course we were on a farm in New Hampshire's.Open Fields. I drove the smallest thing on the face of the earth(a tricycle} to the largest on the earth (A Aircraft Carrier) I was called a helmsman. The point I'm trying to make is have Confidence in what you do. Life is always a gamble. Pull up your socks , look life in the eye,do what you have to do ,and do it well we all have fears but we have to over come them.Don't look back. You cant change the past but you can shirley change the future. It's up to you. If you don't want anything out of life do nothing. Buckle up and have confidence in what you do and put your heart and sole into it.If you don't feel the time is right give your self more time.No dought you must be a young man with your whole life ahead of you. Life is what you make it. You will know when your time is right. Let me know what you decide TED

You have to wait until you are comfortable in the vehicle. Use your permit and get someone to let you drive for a while. I personally drove for a year before I took my road test. Might not need to go that long, but try to get a bit more experience so you are calm.

Then you can take the road test. And don't worry too much if you fail the first time, that's pretty common.

i own a repair shop, and what you need to do is find someone you feel perfectly comfortable with ,and have them drive around with you or go with you ,if you feel uncomfortable with any one in the car its just going to make you nervous, and that's not going to help at all,you need someone who will be totally calm and real cool about it even if you make a mistake, and then you,ll be able to learn, but regardless of who is with you ,you,ll have to overcome the fear of being beside of someone and all the things you fear, you need to learn to over come them other wise you could get your self as well as other people hurt, driving is fun and easy, just look at it like its a simple thing, and don't fear it,you,ll make it,just have confidence in your self, and you,ll do fine, good luck with it i hope this helps.
