It depends on the type of person. I could not take money that I knew did not belong to me or that I did not earn in some way. I would feel guilty. Some people would not feel guilty because they think otherwise. Which means they were not brought up to have the knowledge of what it means to do wrong and to do right in society. What belongs to them and what does not.

Since I am a cashier I would give it back because I know if they come up short they might get in trouble. I have given some people more change than they were supposed too and trust me they just smiled and walked out. I didn't notice until after I did it though that it wasn't the right change. But one time when two dollars were stuck together the guy gave me one back that was nice.

i always give it back because i used to work as a cashier and more then once people returned money after i made a mistake and it kept me out of trouble, once i messed up really bad and gave somebody the hundred they had given me back to them along with their change. if the lady hadnt of returned it i would have gotten fired. so i always do the right thing in that situation now.

Give it back. I was a cashier for 11 years and wished people would have done that.

Chances are I wouldn't even notice it, but if I did, i would give it back. The guilt would get to me, thinking about the cashier losing her job, being labeled a thief, etc. Ok, ok...I kept a dollar once, but I already got out to the car and loaded the kids in.....and it was only a dollar...

I would give it back, but I wouldn't be afraid to tell her not to! I mean, what if someone got a 10 back instead of a 1 or 5? BIG difference. I would make sure she didn't do it again, for sure!

Give it back..otherwise the cashier's boss would think the cashier stole the money and she'd have to pay, then she would most likely lose her job.

I'd be really tempted to keep it, but it really depends how much I guess. If it was under 1 dollar or so, keep it. If it's more then 5, you know the right thing to do is give it back.

Also sometimes, businesses will do that on purpose to see if you return that, and if you do, you can keep it. Atleast at my work we randomly do that.

I've been on that side of the cash register and I'd like to think most people would give it back. My job has been on the line before and I wouldn't do that to someone else.

I have given back the money like that many times Madam. I lead a very honest life at least I do not cheat others if not myself. There is god and my conscience to check my actions.
