I have a piece of glass that was a sliding glass door it is 80" long, I need to cut it 55 3/8" long, I tried one and it shattered what do i do?

Tempered glass has been heat treated after being cut to proper size for strength. It cannot be cut afterward without large machine tools or shattering, as you have already experienced. Practically speaking, it is impossible for the typical homeowner to do.

I agree with those who have stated that tempered glass cannot be cut. As you found out, it shatters. Tempered glass is ordered as per the needed size.

You can not cut or drill tempered glass. When you penetrate the surface it shatters.

Use lexan. Much cheaper, easy to cut and safe for sliding doors.

Well, I bought a slab of tempered glass to go on a coffee table, and the glas co. cut it to size at the shop and delivered it.

I'd suggest taking it to a glazer and see if they will do it for you. Call around first.

Go to the glass cutter. they have different tools and the know how to get it right. and it costs beans compared to replacing the whole piece.

You can't cut it. it will shatter.
