WOW...this is a juicy question and I am afraid that YA will bar me forever if I decide to REALLY get into it. A few people in here have already provided you with an answer as to what is positive and negative and although I could get more deeply into it, I am afraid that you would lose a lot of people... Yes, all dogs need training, yes, all dogs need to listen, the first time a command is issued and for that we will use both methods described above. When I am training a young dog or imprinting a puppy, I will use a motivational method with minimal or no corrections. Please understand that when I talk about training here, I am talking about training MY type of dogs that I have selected and purchased for my needs and the needs of others who are interested in the same things as me. For motivation I will use the toy, a tug or a ball and I much prefer the tug as I feel a dog that gets to express himself in a "physical" manner is gets much more satisfied then in any other way, but, whatever the dog likes at that time is what will be used to motivate him. Training will be distraction free when we start and until the dog understands what every command means. I just love it when "trainers" take a young dog to a park or whatever and try to train it to listen among a million distractions. For this type of training I will use a prong collar on a young adult or a flat collar on a puppy. The dog will be guided and manipulated into the correct position I am looking to achieve and will be praised when achieving that position profusely and be rewarded with his tug. When the dog makes a mistake, and he will, he will be told "No" and be guided again into what I want him to do. Guiding can be done with hands or collar, but, it is NOT a correction, the correction here is the "No" he gets to understand that EVERY correction is preceded by that word. When the dog knows all his commands and I know that he does, we will move to a different environment and he will start his correction phase of training. Here he learns that not listening is NOT an option to even consider and that immediate response is what is needed. The dog will receive corrections with his prong collar and these will depend upon the age and temperament of the dog. They can range from mild ones to severe ones for major screw ups. Once the correction phase is done we will move into the proofing phase and this is when I use the E collar. Contrary to what everyone says, there is not a finer training tool anywhere when proofing a dog, period. The dog will further be reinforced into the idea what listening the first time is the only way there is and that nothing else matters when I give a command. Corrections will be given as needed and they can range again, from mild to really uncomfortable. Praise id also given in greater quantities by me at this stage and this may not sit well with other trainers, but, it has worked well for me. Please let me know if you want me to add more to this or if you feel I missed something, I will be happy to do it.

I'd rather be approached. I'm too shy to approach people.

When I see what I want I go right for it.God help who ever gets in my way.I call it the strike and take approach. I hate to be wasteful with time. And sometimes a girl just has to make the first move.So many shy guys out there.

I'm still more of the approach-ey type rather than the approach-er.

I like it either way. Most of the time, I do the approaching, but sometimes it's nice to sit back and let it come to you.

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. If I see someone I want, I just go ahead and approach. At least that way you know for sure
