Hey I never went tanning b4 and i have a light skin tone but my friend told me after the first like 3 visits i wont burn anymore and should use tanning lotion that the salon tells me to use. Does this lotion prevent burning? What exactly does it do? And I was also wondering if it was true what my friend said about not buring after the first 3 visits

Thanks

depends on the lotion. theres just regular moisturizing lotion, which helps because tanning its not good on dry skin. then theres bronzing lotion, which helps give you color. and it wont streak if applied correctly (small circles at a time, applied evenly all over. use baby wipe in between fingers to avoid discoloration). the highest lotion is tingle which brings the blood cells to the surface, causing you to tan faster. it either gets hot or cold, depending on the kind of lotion you get- not recommended for new tanners. most people use bronzer because they're looking for tanner skin. lotion doesnt prevent burning per se, but tanning helps get a "base tan" which does help again burning. just ease you way up on minutes, and dont jump too much in time, otherwise you will burn. hope that helps

While tanning does take a small toll on your skin, as long as you use proper lotion and proper goggles, you should be alright. Ask the lady at the tanning salon what kind of lotion she would recommend for you to use. It helps the prevention of burning, as well as making the tan better and darker. And it's not necessarily after three visits that you stop burning, but after around 3-6 visits, you should be going from being burnt to being somewhat tan, so be sure to use a lotion. Enjoy the tanness!

I really wouldn't suggest going tanning. Just because everyone else is going tanning, does not mean that you need to. Wait until the summer to do that, because in the longrun your skin WILL suffer, I promise you that.

But to answer your questions..
1. The lotion won't prevent burning, but it will help. When you're skin changes color (tans or burns) it is being damaged.
2. It's not true about you not burning after three visits. It depends on how you normally burn. Depending on the time you spend in the tanning booth makes all the difference.

Just be careful.

well, it`s hard to say if you`ll burn or not, but if u start out at a short amount of time (probably just 5 min) & gradually move up by a min or 2 as u go, u should be ok...yes, u can only use lotion specially formulated for indoor tanning, because some of the ingredients (such as mineral oil, etc.) in the regular outdoor lotions damage the acrylic of the tanning bed...indoor lotions usually don`t contain any sunscreen, so they aren`t going to prevent u from burning...if anything, they actually increase your risk of burning, because they are designed to help u tan very quickly (especially the accelerators, amplifiers & tingle lotions)...talk to the staff at the salon, & they will be able to recommend the appropriate lotion for u to use...some excellent lotions are put out by swedish beauty (their new one, "crystal" is fantastic...it costs around $100), pro tan & fiesta sun...remember to exfoliate your skin & to moisturize it... hydrated skin helps to minimize the development of wrinkles & tans much better, plus it helps your color stay looking nice...hope this helps!!! happy tanning!!!
