Ground first, then the positive. Make sure it is dry out too.

Your first answer was correct. If you were to disconnect the red or how wire first, it could cause a spark and more so please disconnect the black or ground wire first. Take Care

always disconnect the negative terminal first this minimizes the possibility of sparks igniting any vapors from the battery.
also make sure everything is off first.

Disconnect the black or ground first. then you can undo the red or positive.

connecting,the negative the last.
pay close attention, I mention the negative only.
is the one that does not spike or spark,so does not spoil the on board computer
