You got a lot of one word answers to "what color?", and the facts say that red is the color that gets the most tickets, because it looks so fast. White gets the fewest tickets, but I find it a bland color good for fleet sales.Yellow is the most noticeable in all light levels. Black or any other dark color is hot until you get rolling then the wind cools it off. It does look great if the car has good surfaces, and when it is dirty is less noticeable. So do you want to look fast or go fast? Make your own informed decision.

A subdued green or even a beige so you won't be noticed. You'll probably be doing enough to get noticed as it is. It doesn't pay to advertise. If you're into the car, you want to fly under the radar. If you're into having other people admire you, get a bright color but watch how you drive.
Beige / tan is a really good stealth color. I'm not sure why, it just works.

Red is the traditional color of choice (see Ferrari). It really shows off the lines of a car. If its a Mercedes then Titanium Silver. Same for a Beemer.

Red is the favorite, but then again Red is the one sportscar color that the cops love to pull over. Go with Silver.

Velocity blue if it's an RX-8...Red if it's a Corvette or Ferrari or RX-7, Yellow if it's an NSX or a Lambo, Silver or Black if it's a Bimmer or a Benz.

Red. It is said that the human eye sees red as a "fast" color. So, when you drive by, people will naturally think that you are going fast, even when your not.

It depends on the car... If you were going to buy it for me as a present - I'd want a true red vette/ferrari/lamborghini, neon green lotus, blue camaro, or a black mustang.
