Brahma's- - - -can be a variation of greys/browns and a
hump on the top of their shoulders at the base
of their neck. Generally a milk Cow.
Herefords(White Face)- - - -Red and White with alot of white
on their face. . hence the name White Face.
The purer the breed, the stockier the cow/bull.
Generally a meat cow but can be used as
a milk cow.
Angus- - - - - - Totally black cow/bull.Both milk and meat cow.
Jersey- - - - - - Variation of brown with light dusting of white
and black. Beautiful large brown/black eyes
and long lashes.Best Milk Cow Breed.
Holstein- - - - - - Black and White. Best Milk Cow Breed.
These are some of your most popular breeds and alot of other breeds have been derived from the cross breeding of these breeds.
Calves are the cutest stage of this animal and can become a real pet as a grown animal. It is fun to run and romp with calves. Feeding calves with a bucket is a ball and having the calf suck on your fingers is really a hoot.
I would have a pasture of "pet" cows/bulls before I would have horses.

4 years of college in a degree focused on cows... I know a bit..

Lots of breeds 5 main dairy breeds with 4 minor ones I can name. At least twice as many beef breeds that I can name off the top of my head (farm joke: my kid is a genius, he can spell all the beef breeds)
with lots of colors and some standard patterns universal in a breed.

I don't know many breeds or the color genetics of them as well as I do for horses but we raise Hereford angus crosses and are getting into Bue Lingos which is a belted beef breed. They are fairly new breed and not to well known yet. I really like them. My bulls name is Harm short for Harmon but he is just a big puppy dog...as much of a puppy dog as any bull can be. He loves horse treats, watermellon and to have the top of his head scratched.

Yes to all of the above. I don't love cattle to the point that I won't eat them though. My favorite meal: big juicy steak cooked medium rare with just a few grill marks with corn on the cob, potatoes, and a cold glass of tea or water
