It doesn't happen often, but it happens. Make copies of the cancelled check. Contact your bank and they will rectify the error. If it caused bounced checks or any additional fees, the bank will reimburse. They will also write letters notifying the payee that you were not at fault.

Yes. It took 4 days to straighten out but the bank re runs the check for the proper amount and credits your account.
