If you had an incredible job opportunity to move forward but then you found out the person who is to be your boss is totally homophobic, would you still go through with an interview hoping that your skills would over ride your sexuality and that would be taken into account more, or would you not put yourself in the positon to be hired then perhaps fired (unfair dismissal). I personally think if you are totally comfortable with your sexuality you can ride most situations through, what do you think?

By not going to the interview you are letting the prospective boss already control you through his/her homophobia...don't allow this to happen..Go for the interview. Your sexuality has nothing to do with your work. It's a job--not a social gathering.

I have total confidence in making my sexuality a non-issue in the workforce that I would take the job and make it mine. No apologies about anything!

7 years ago, I was called out of the blue and offered a corporate job without ever interviewing for it. (My reputation preceded me on this one.) On my first day, I met my very conservative, religious manager. As we walked together to the office, he said to me, "We don't have a problem with you being gay." I was speechless for one second. My reply, "Neither do I." That was a great job. My salary was 50% more than my coworkers who had been there 10-20 years. I left on great terms and still stay in touch with my former secretary and her assistant.

I agree with you and if it will benefit you go for it . The work place is no place to flaunt your sexual preference . I am working for a corporation that is very gay supportive and has same sex partner benefits , but I have not always been in that situation and have never worn my sexuality on my sleeve . I am not ashamed or in the closet , I simply choose to be judged on my abilities rather than my sexuality . Good luck !

Go to the interview..
I have spent so much of my life not taking chances because of who I am. If you don't go you will always regret not knowing. Besides. what is the worst that can happen?
Firing someone for their sexual orientation is illegal.
If you are good at your job would your orientation be an issue?

well if he fired u u would have some hell of a law suit ey? do ur job let no one know ur gay.. its none of no ones business...perhaps he will never know and will attach a liking to you in ur performance at work. i think u think about ur sexual preference in a whole dif light.. keep it quiet. no one has to know.. least get in to get the experience.. i know gays want rights and have them some dont think so but in jobs it should say no discimination against race creed color sex.. etc.. ok ..theres a time to display ur beliefs in NYC called the gay parade then u can boast all ya want. sex has nothing to do with ur work.. and should not.. employers face this all the time and lawsuits..calls from ur girl should be made on break time on a cell..

take the job and not discuss your sexuality. your performance as an employee should not be a reflection of your sexuality and vice versa. however, do not deny your sexuality. let it come out on its own. you do not have to tell anyone about it. but if someone asks you about your sexuality, then be proud and answer yes!

I wouldn't go to the interview. I'd sit in a nearby conveniently placed cemetery and stories while sitting on a gravestone and become the famous writer I always wanted to be.

Yes go ahead with the job interview. They cannot ask you personal questions like that, she dont need to know or be told what your lifestyle is.

I'd go for it. Homophobe or not, any issues he had with my sexuality and any repercussions resulting from that would be Sexual Harassment and grounds for a huge lawsuit and his termination.

I agree with you. Work is not the place to flaunt your sexual preferences anyhow, unless you work in some kind of ~sexually-oriented~ industry, in which case, this would be a non-issue.
