Another Idea is to have a bake sale/ lemonade stand. Me and my sisters baked all week, made poster signs and decided how much we should charge for each baking good. Any age is perfect for this job!
Another good job is to start a walking dogs for neighbours that have dogs. You can either put up posters around town, or hand out fliers to people you know that have dogs. I would charge 5 dollars per dog.
Another good job is to wash cars, or open a car wash business with friends for a few days, mow the lawn, shovel drive ways in the winter, and help people clean there house that might need help.
If are 14 years or older, you could also work at fast food restaurants, or grocery stores too. But try applying for the garden center, it might work out better.

Tough call since most businesses will require working papers & I don't think you can get those until you're older. You're probably gonna have to look into some kind of small business - maybe a family owned type of thing - so you still have some time for FUN!!
You could mow grass, pull weeds & that kind of stuff. If there are a lot of older people in your neighborhood, they might like that kind of help.
If there are any of those little seasonal ice cream/hamburger stands near you - maybe they could use some help.
You could be a mother's helper - which is different from a babysitter. Basically you entertain the kids so the mom can get some work done! Heck, I could use one of those!!

Since you eliminated the 1st choice of babysitting I'd say the next best job for a 13 year old girl is helping a single parent with housecleaning. Wash windows, fold clothes from the dryer, clean out the fridge, wash dishes, clean the oven, etc. Not only canyou earn money and help someone who really needs your help, you're helping to enhance your skills in this area!!!

I am not sure if you will be able to work at the garden center because of the legal age to work but what about a ice cream store?

Most states require work permits and a number of employers will not hire someone your age because there are a number of legal restrictions on the type of work you can actually do. But by all means, go ahead and apply, you never know what could happen.

Go right ahead, at least you have the right mind-set in that you want to work from early. A supermarket (at the checkout counter)is also a good place to start. You can pack the groceries in the bags but you can also take the groceries to the car and get some extra change.

I would try the garden center, if it is some where you would like to work. Or try your local ymca. Do you like pets, maybe you could try dog walking or doing chores for people.
