I think it depends on your practitioner and your pregnancy.

Most people get 2-3 ultrasounds, but I'm 26 weeks and finally asked my doctor when I would get one, and he looked at me like I was crazy! (These are OB/GYNs.)

Apparently, he and his partners don't do ultrasounds unless they think there might be a problem... which is new to me. I thought ultrasounds were part of the procedure. Even midwives do them, I'm told!

My aunt had complications and was referred to a specialist, so she had an ultrasound at every visit.

My advice would be to ask your doctor/practitioner. It seems like everyone might do things differently.

I had 3 scans done with DS I only had 3 because I went in to early labour. I know people that have gotten 3 or 4 with a healthy pregnancy

I am 24 weeks with a perfectly healthy little boy and I have had 7 ultrasounds. It just depends on the doctor. Try not to worry im sure all is fine. Best wishes!

i found out at 3 weeks and have had 6 ultrasounds so far this is because of me being a higher risk pregnancy this time. for my first i had 1, my second child i had 1 and my 3rd child i had about 5. it all depends on how the dr feels about them

Depending on your insurance.. usually its only 2.. but sometimes the doctors are unable to tell if your baby is measuring up and may want to do more of them. It does not mean there is anything wrong, its a good thing, it means you have a thorough doctor. If there was something wrong they would tell you.

When i had my first child i had 4 scanns, one because they though was a problem at 9 weeks, next two just routine and one just before i gave birth because they couldnt feel where baby was laying. and now so far with my seccond baby i have only had 2 scans.
It really does depend on the situation, the DR and how you and baby are going.
For me personally i welcome any chance at all to have a sneak peak at my baby.

http://www.drapplebaum.com/pregnancy.html#IS%20ULTRASOUND%20SAFE%20DURING%20PREGNANCY?

IS ULTRASOUND SAFE DURING PREGNANCY?
The Number One Question.

The Answer: YES!

The following, is a quotation from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine addressing this very question:

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ULTRASOUND IN MEDICINE

Official Statement
Approved
March 1993
October 1982

Diagnostic ultrasound has been in use since the late 1950s. Given its known benefits and recognized efficacy for medical diagnosis, including use during human pregnancy, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine herein addresses the clinical safety of such use:

No confirmed biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposure at intensities typical of present diagnostic ultrasound instruments have ever been reported. Although the possibility exists that such biological effects may be identified in the future, current data indicate that the benefits to patients of the prudent use of diagnostic ultrasound outweigh the risks, if any, that may be present.

The Bottom Line: as far as anyone can tell, and a lot of people have looked, ULTRASOUND IN PREGNANCY IS SAFE FOR BOTH THE MOTHER AND EMBRYO/FETUS.

Get as many as you feel you need, but common is 3.

It all depends on your provider. My baby is healthy but i had to have a couple extra examines for my placenta. My friend who just had her baby had gone into preterm labor so many times she has a book of pictures. I'd rather have to many done than not enough

no not necessarily it could mean that she wants to make sure the baby is measuring well if you have had 2 I assume you are far enough in to assume that there are no major abnormalities which are commonly noticed early....... ask her why. good luck!!
