My 2001 Honda civic just had the check engine light come on. I bought this car used a while back and don't have the service book for it. So my question is how do I check the code? And is there a website that will explain what the code means for my car? Do I need an OBD II scan tool to do this or is there some way to get arround this? Thanks for your help!

Bring it to Autozone. They will scan it for free.
To do it yourself you will need the OBD 11 scan tool. Cost about $100.
You can get codes on line. Just search OBD ll.
The tool comes with a CD with the codes .

most common cause of the check engine light coming on is a bad oxygen sensor.

You take it to your mechanic, who will scan it and tell you what needs to be done.
