I just got Time Warner Internet. I thought my DSL wireless router would work with it. Turns out it won't. Does anyone know what kind of router I should be looking for?

Router devices are manufactured independent of Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Likely your compatibility problem is due to your router only supporting USB or Ethernet, not both. What connection does your cable modem have, USB or Ethernet? All you need to do is use a router that supports the output connection from your cable modem.

If you have the router plugged in and it still isn't working, maybe the current configuration is still set with specific parameters for your DSL provider. You might want to locate your owners manual and perform a factory reset and start with a fresh configuration if you think this could be the problem.

Good luck.

Any router will work. The router is not dependent on the type or model of modem. They all use standard protocols. You most likely have to change the settings in your router. I would guess it is set for PPOE as it is using a form of diall up when connected to DSL. Let me know if you need help configuring it.

Router is setup for PPPoE which is trying to authenticate to the DSL company you used before. You need to change that.

Should be an option in the router that says "Does your ISP require a login" or something like that, check no and that should work for ya.

Almost any wireless router should work with the cable modem. I am guessing the DSL wireless router is one that has both the DSL terminal adapter(sometimes called a DSL modem) built in along with the wireless, that type probably wont work, otherwise it should work, It may need settings updated, you possibly might even have to change system settings if the DSL used something like PPPoE.

I have used both of these and found for me they worked great:
