i do notice a lot of slender people around,
but why and why are high street sizes in womens wear stores getting too big. usually the smallest size in a uk high street store is a size 6, or 4(very rarely). and the sizes are bigger than they sound. i work in fashion myself but i really think the whole female size system and weight thing is completely messed up.
do you think if they just went by inches for clothing sizes it would be alot better?
how is making the sizes a lot bigger going to make people healthier, - if there are so many bigger people around?
- i know catwalk models are considered too thin or anorexic, which is fine, but the high street sizes have just got out of control, what do you think?

a us size '0' is equvalent to a uk size 4.
the uk size 4 was considered a size 8 only 6 years ago within the uk.
i order 3 jackets online from asos all in size 8's (the smallest size available) they all looked too big on me, and that is very unusual! - instead of 8's they fit and look like 12's. what is going on!? the sizes are really annoying me.

I'm in the US and it's called vanity sizing. They are making sizes bigger to make people feel better about themselves. Whereas they used to be a size 12, they now fit into a pair of pants labeled as an 8. People will buy that brand because it makes them think they are a smaller size. Would you rather be able say your pants are a size 8 or size 12? I have been the same weight for years and I have gone from a size 3 to less than a size 0 (those are junior sizes) in the past couple of years. They had to start making size 0 and 00's because smaller women were being forced out of the whole sizing system. It's gotten to the point where most size 0's are too big for me now! It's ridiculous! They really need to standardize sizes, inches would make much more sense.

they did an article in cosmo a couple months ago. it's all about sales and marketing. if you fit into a size 6 at the gap and a size 10 at banana republic, where are you going to buy your clothes? they did a study and a pair of size 6 pants from the gap in 1997 was 3 inches smaller than a pair of size 6 pants in 2006. they aren;t interested in making people healthier, they're interested in sales. the same idea goes for why they don't use inches, size 6 sounds a lot better than 36 inches.

well there may seem to be a lot of slim people around, but when you look at statistics, the average woman is a size 16-18.
which makes you wonder why only a few number of stores sell clothes that exceed a size 16 (often they go up to a size 14)..and there are so many shops that sell clothes for smaller people.
and being a certain size does not necessarily mean you will be any healthier than a person who is 2-4 sizes bigger than you.
you could be a size 8, eat all the crap in the world but have a high metabolism so lose the calories and fat quicker...but then u have a high blood and cholesterol level..but the person who is bigger may just have a natural inheritance of being abigger person, but may be a lot healthier!
maybe we should be promoting healthy living without the constant obsessing over sizes?
and seth...who said about overweight people being attractive..thats one opinion. many people dont find slim people attractive..so dont be fattist!

I live in the U.S. People have gotten big here too. A lot of young people are overweight and unattractive. They are not getting married, and they are not reproducing. I only weigh about 147 pounds. It's hard for me to find slender women my age. Almost everyone in America has become overweight. I'm not sure what the problem is. I don't know if it's caused by lack of exercise or fast food restaurants. It's probably a combination of both. I still remember Bill Clinton when he was fat and pudgy. One of his favorite places to eat was McDonalds restaurant. That was also Rush Limbaugh's favorite place to eat. I guess people have been stuffing themselves with too many hamburgers, fries, and milkshakes.

the older generation creates a world of comfort, thus lead to lavish life style, thus lead to fast food, thus, got fat.
THUS... it is up to new generation to fix the problem.
me personally?,not gonna lie, i don't know about fashion but...inches would be easier for guys to buy girls clothes.
