Also, I forgot to create additional administrator accounts. Does anyone know any way to solve this so I can reset my password?

Does it require any external programs from the internet or programs that I already have on my computer such as MS-DOS (command prompt)?

Well there are ways to recover your password with software that cracks the encrypted hash where your password is located, they usually cost a decent amount of money to give you your full password but I've seen some that will give you a few characters to refresh your memory then charge for the rest. There are other tools to reset your administrator password, however if you have any encrypted files you have lost them without your original password.

Best bet is to install a new installation of windows on same computer and backup your files. Then reformat and reinstall a fresh copy.

Oh and if you have any Linux savvy friends, there are tools on Linux that could be helpful with recovering files and passwords.

I can tell you how to reset it. This only works if you have access to an account. (Any account). This MIGHT work with windows 2000 but was intended for xp.

1) Log-in to a limited account and launch the DOS

2) Type this exactly as it is:

cd\
cd\windows\system32
mkdir temphack
copy logon.scr temphack\logon/scr
copy cmd.exe
del logon.scr
rename cmd.exe logon.scr
exit

3) Wait for the screensaver to boot

4) When it does, you will get an unprotected DOS prompt

5) type the following:

"net user "

example: net user Bob MyNewShinnyPassword

THIS MIGHT NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 2000. IT WAS INTENDED FOR XP. I WOULD NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE DESPERATE. YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR MACHINE. I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IN ANY WAY FOR ANY RESULTING DAMAGE TO YOUR MACHINE, OR ANY OTHER DEVICES AFFECTED BY THIS TECHNIQUE. CREDIT FOR THIS TECHNIQUE CAN BE SENT TO: Estyle89@hotmail.com or jaoibh@hotmail.com

THANKS TO THOSE PEOPLE FOR PROVIDING ME WITH THIS TECHNIQUE

JUst hit the hooked up key as your computer boots up, on the whole, F2-F3 or F8. Go to safeguard utilising the up-down arrows and in which it says set/difference password, readily hit the input button, input a brand new password in and near, utilising the store position. You can now use that new password and at the moment are formally the administrator!

Admit it - you picked this computer up at a yard sale or flea market or worse, off the back of a truck at the local laundromat from a guy who let you have it cheap.

You're not going to get advice from L337 hackers on this Yahoo site! You'd do better to go to MicroSoft's help pages, which are going to be just as much help as this forum: NONE.

You are probably going to have to reload Win 2000 - your data might not be lost, but if you don't have the original discs & key code, it ain't happening.

You are so screwed dude. Those passwords are their for a reason. You can't get around it. You probably should just reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything fresh.

Search Kim Commando. This is not a porno site. She holds a radio talk show, and hosts a website with infinite resources. She might have your answer.
