Why doesn't the movie "White Chicks" bother anyone but if you had two white men dressing up as two black women and acting out the stereotypes of that race's gender people and naming it "Black Chicks" everyone would consider that racist and get all up in arms about it?

Imus thing? No, I wasn't even thinking about that.

Well, i couldn't stand to watch the whole thing cos it's such a bad movie. Just not funny, so i can't say whether it's racist or not. I did see, however, soul man in the 80s. For those of you too young to remember, it involves a white guy (C. Thomas Howell) blacking up his face so he can get a scholarship into Harvard. The scholarship is only available to black students. I liked the film then, don't know if i would now. Probably would. It's not the concept that people find funny but the ability to be able to laugh at yourself or show how ridiculous stereotypes can be that appeal to the viewer.

Basically, whether it's right or wrong, people of all colours do it. Some might argue that Sacha B. Cohen is racist when portraying Ali G. or Borat. Most would probably find him funny though.

White Chicks Racist

The only reason no one ever made a big deal about how this film should have never been allowed to be made is because most have no clue what it is or have heard about it. There would never be a movie called "Black Chicks" where white guys dressed up and acted like black women because anyone even involved in trying to get it made before the protests shut it down would be labeled as a racist. White Chicks is a perfect example of reverse racism but most are afraid to even bring it up because they too will be labeled by many as racist.

Didn't the movie Soul Man come first, in the 80's sometime? Was that racist? It was a crappy movie anyhow. I think a movie named black chicks could be funny, if done right. White chicks could have been funny. Yikes, people are too sensitive. Next, we won't be able to see the faces of the people in the movie, just their hands(with gloves) , like the country crock butter commercial. Lighten up? No pun intended.

Uh.. Take a joke. It's a comedy movie. Gosh, don't get your panties whined up in a bunch. Probably not the suitable movies for old people who thing everything is considered racist. My medical class and I watch this today and it was pretty hilarious.

I'll bet you are asking this in response to the Imus thing, eh? :-)

Arguably, you are right. It could be seen as racist. But it is just a dumb comedy. It was fiction. It was meant to be fiction. It was meant to be funny (although it really wasn't that funny, was it?). If you didn't like it, you didn't have to watch it. It was obvious what it was about. The Imus thing is different, because no one knew what he was going to say and he was on public radio. He was representing his company, and what he said was bad publicity for them. So they were well in their right to fire him. If you were so offended by "White Chicks," you could have protested it. No one stopped you. And you know what? Most people would have laughed at you, and not because of racism. They would have laughed because it was just a dumb movie. Who cares?

So why don't you go ahead and make a movie called "Black Chicks" and see what happens. I'll bet it won't cause as much of a fuss as you think. Dumb movies do not equal public radio.

First of all the movie "White Chicks" was a ficticious movie that had a plot, not much of one, but it had a plot. It didn't make negative light of ethnic features, and it didn't stereotype all people as acting a certain way.

Yes some "White Chicks" may act the way that the characters were portrayed in the movie. Some Black men act the way some of those were portrayed in the movie, i.e., only date women because they are white, however, it never did make negative light on uncontrollable features such as hair texture, body make-up or things of the sort.

I cannot speak on behalf of all people either Black or White, so quite possibly it was offensive to some and yes they have a right to voice that opinion if they so choose so. Personally I see it no different than any other movie where the Black man is portrayed as the pimp or the druggie or even just a butler, maid or things of the light.

It was a movie, specifically a comedy, and though the actors in it did act a bit crazy in it, I strongly feel that they were not trying to convey any thoughts of racism, sexism or stereotyping. If you recall, the producers and main actors in this film also were the producers and main characters in the show "In Living Color" which made fun of ALL ethnicities, including Black, but mysteriously got pulled.....one can only wonder why.

In comparison to the Imus statement, which was not necessarily made as a joke, but I feel was said out of some sort of resentment or dislike of a classification of a people. It was demeaning and degrading to Black people and it was degrading and demeaning to Black women. If he wanted to generalize, why couldn't he make a statement based on the theme of sports, aimed at the entire team, which isn't 100% Black, or if he wanted to specifically target specific people on the team, why didn't he make a comment sort of along the lines of, I reallly commend these women for seeking a higher education to better their lives through the talents of what they provided this team. To me he targeted ethnic features "nappy headed", to identify certain people (by grade of hair) and then made a derrogatory statement by calling them "hos", which is far more offensive to me than the way the rich White woman or the Black athlete was portrayed in the movie.

If you ask me, it's like comparing apples to oranges, there isn't any compaison here.

I thought the movie was idiotic and never paid a cent to see it (and I never will). I couldn't even watch the trailers.

I can't believe you'd bring this up as a serious argument.
