Sure, of course. College can help in the short-term and the long-term, though. When you have a college degree, your starting entry level salary will probably be higher. In the long-term, some of those really big-deal jobs require lots of experience and a college degree. It's just a nice thing to have under your belt - it helps you get in the door sometimes. A lot of college graduates find out that a college degree doesn't mean much when you don't have experience, so they're working sort of dead-end jobs trying to gain experience, but experience and education are going to get you those really great jobs. College isn't for everyone, but if you can think you can do it, it's worth the investment.

Absolutely, but not going to college makes it harder, especially if you plan to work for an existing company. The best way to be totally successful without getting a degree would be to be an entrepreneur. Most companies recognize degrees as important and will tend to promote those with degrees over those who don't.

Absolutely! Especially, if you plan to be self-employed. If you don't, here is one major consideration. If you have no degree, and you plan to work for other people (not self-employed) and you will likely work for more than one employer, then the lack of a degree will get you filtered out at the HR level before you ever have a chance to interview and show your stuff. I think there are many ways to learn, but HR departments (I used to work in them) receive hundreds of applications/resumes for jobs. They need filters so they are only reviewing a few resumes. The first filter they use is college degree. If you don't meet that qualification, your resume hits the circular file and the remainder are the ones that are considered.
Personally, I think there are extremely intelligent people with no degree and people with a degree that couldn't get themselves out of a paper bag if both ends were open. The only reason I recommend that people get one is to keep themselves competitive.

Yes. A college degree isn't what it used to be and kids getting out now are saddled with enormous student loan debt in some cases. It would be better to do a program like Radiology at a community college or something-- in 18 months you have a career than can earn you $60,000 a year. That isn't bad! It's a career path.

relies upon on your definition on effective. in case you recommend "financially having the flexibility to arise with the money for a modest domicile, a modest vehicle, and having the flexibility to offer my destiny toddlers an ok way of existence if my better half works besides" form of effective, it truly is conceivable. the superb trades can furnish a tremendously livable income, and each so often can furnish a good bigger earning means then some college ranges (as an occasion, vehicle mechanics (a commerce occupation) frequently have a much greater helpful earning means than social workers (a occupation which frequently desires a school instruction)). in spite of the undeniable fact that, i does no longer propose in simple terms purely graduating from intense college. there is somewhat little a intense college degree on its very own gets you (pastime clever). in case you do no longer desire to circulate to authentic college, then circulate study a powerful commerce.

HECK YES!!!!!!!
In today's society, a degree is just a piece of paper that says you spent 5 (+?) years in a totally sheltered environment, learned a bunch of stuff that you'll probably never use again. OK, so you learned how to learn. Did you accomplish anything? Did you improve the profit margine for your department? Did you cure any diseases? Did you invent anything that will make life a little easier for the rest of us? What actually usable skills did you learn in college?
The majority of college students never even work in the field in which they received their degree.

Yes, but learn a valuable skill (auto repair, etc.). The days of unskilled labor getting paid premium wages are over thank goodness.
