I had a shower a couple of hours ago and the water is still in the tub. Sometimes it does take a while for it to go down, so I didn't think anything of it until I went back in the washroom and noticed it hasn't gone down at all. I tried plunging it and using Draino, but it didn't do anything.

I have overnight guests coming in a few hours... any ideas? I may just have to call a plumber and not let my guests bathe!

THANKS!

cover the overflow on the bathtub with a wet washcloth when you plunge it. The overflow is that chrome ring above the drain, the bottom side of it has an opening, block this off. If you have a trip lever type bath waste it may need an adjustment. Draino doesn't work very good and I have no idea what bleach will do. If it were my tub I'd assume it was a hair clog if the drain was adjusted properly and I would use FlowEasy from Lowe's. Concentrated sulphuric acid, if it's hair this will eat it. If you go this road just make sure you follow the directions exactly.

Man this not good. If, the water go down and the Draino not work, you may try a plunger or pour some bleach in it and wait. It usually hair, but, most times it caught there at the hole and can be dug out with a small wire. All Sinks and Tubs have what called a P-Trap, look under the sink and you see. It hold water to keep the sewer smell from coming into the house. Usually in the U part is where the problem is at. If, you have something small and flexible yet stout you can be able to run it through the U. I can not think of anything off hand that may be laying around. I know you can unscrew the Sink Faucet Strainer and sometimes get a garden hose on it and stick the other end into the tub drain and then put a rag around it and the water pressure blow it clear. May help to have someone take care of the sink end, holding it and another person do the tub part.

They sell compressed air bottles for this. One brand name is Power- Out. Follow directions on can. You can probably save some time by removing the strainer over the drain and getting a hooked wire into the drain. Twirl it around like eating spaghetti with a fork. Pull as much of the hair out as possible then use the Power-Out and run hot water down the drain. I have a wife and daughter and do this about every 2 months or so. Rarely need the Power-out whcih costs about 6 bucks but will give you about 3 hard clear-outs.

You must have a bunch of hair in the drain. Try plunging it again, the draino may have loosened it up some and maybe it will clear. That may be something you want to do on a monthly basis. Just ot keep it clear.

Get a hand snake from Home Depot or hardware store; cost less than $15. Remove overflow drain and snake the drain from there.

Try getting a snake from a hardware store. You should be able to clear it if the snake will fit into the drain. $10-15.
