Your 04 taurus is equiped with the PATS security system. You will either need the dealer to code a new key or a locksmith to do this.A locksmith may be cheaper, but make sure they have the equipment to code the key.Not all locksmiths have the equipment.

most newer fords have what ford calls a 'pats' system. it basically is a security system where you must have a programmed key in order to start the engine. you can determine if the vehicle has the 'pats' system if there is a flashing red "theft" light in the instrument cluster. if you lost all keys to the car, you will have to have the vehicle towed to the nearest ford dealer (most independent shops won't have the ford scanner needed to program the keys) and they can cut the keys from the vin number. you will be required to replace at least two keys, cause the system won't allow you to code for only one key. two keys, plus the programming will run about $80 or so, plus whatever the towing charges will be, hope you have aaa or something similar. the good thing is the pats system makes your vehicle nearly impossible to steal, most ford tecks don't know the system good enough to work around it. if someone wanted to steal your car, they would need a tow truck or a flatbed!

well keep looking for your keys because a 2004 taurus would have PATS( Passive Anti Theft System) meaning even if you dismantle the ignition switch and get the wires jumped correctly it will not stay running for more than 2 seconds before the pats module tells the powertrain control module to not stay running. sorry. The selling dealer can look up the key code, cut another key and then program it to your car. the key itself i around 30 bucks programming will be approx. 1/2 hour labor.

Yes, just give me your name and address, I will send an OFFICER out to you shortly !!!! Go down to the Ford dealership, with the proper paperwork and/numbers, they can make a duplicate, no prob. One question, even if you hot wire it, how will you be able to steer it if the steering wheel is still locked????

The easiest way to hot-wire a car is to get under the dashboard and start...wait a minute...how do I know if this is your car you want to start up. Since I don't, I won't go any further.

You can't "hotwire" newer cars.
Too much electronic stuff, computer, locking steering, and stuff.
Call a locksmith. Or find your key.
