I don't assume the worst any more than I assume anything will come out best. I'm realistic enough to know that the worst is always a possibility, and therefore try to be as prepared for it as I can be. I am also intelligent enough to know that if I put my back into it, there is a good chance I can steer the course of events away from the worst, and towards the better. Thirdly I often think back to something once said to me by a very wise, much older family friend when, as a teenager, I was panicking over something that was far out of proportion to its significance in the scheme of things.
He put an arm round me, patted my shoulder and said "You know, I've been through some really terrible things in my life........ and none of 'em ever happened"

its just Human nature. some people try not to assume the worst, but like i said most of us do cause its just our nature to do so.

If you assume something good is going to happen and it doesn't you are disappointed.
If you assume the worse and it doesn't happen you are pleasantly surprised.

That way I am always prepared in case whatever it is that is going on does turn out bad. If it doesn't then I get a pleasant surprise.
