Yup! There are lots of ways!
Try:
"Mr. So and So (you can include the person's background here, like Mr. So and So of Harvard University, or something like that) claims..."
"Mr. So and So has said..."
"Based on the work of Mr. So and So..."
"X Book by Mr. So and So states that..." OR "...as stated in X Book by Mr. So and So."
"...as found in X Book by Mr. So and So."
"...as read in X Book by Mr. So and So."
"Mr. So and So supports [one of the ideas you're writing about] in his book, X, by writing..."
Those are just a few examples that should get you going. Hopefully they'll help you think of even more!

Use footnotes instead. Every time you cite someone, do the little number thingie and then at the bottom of the page in smaller print, put the source.
Or you can state the fact and say "as so and so describes..." or something like that.

It depends on what the person you will quote will say.
Here are some to start you up:
Mr So-and-so..
>argues
>says
>reminds
>declares
>claims
>laments
>describes
>thinks
>declares
>reveals
>relates
>elaborates
>discusses
>tells
>speaks
>confesses
>narrates
>writes (if you will quote from a literary work by the author)
