So i took it back out,and now its just alot rougher to get it into gears after 2nd. It almost doesnt feel like its racheting back into place, any suggestions?

I had the same problem once only on an older bike. There is linkage from the foot shifter to the gearbox. This had come loose and vibrated out of adjustment. Mine was two heim (sp?) ends. One left and one right hand threads, and a double stud between with two jam nuts on each end. If this moves it will not allow the shifter on gearbox to move far enough to shift gears. Hopefully this is all that is wrong w/ yours too. It only took 10 min. to fix.

sounds like the shifter fork needs to be adjusted and posibly metal shavings in the gears. to be on the safe side get a lil magnet and drain the oil out of the gear housing and chek the oil with the magnet for excess wear by the ammount of metal particles in the oil. and the size, flakes or chinks mean serious problem, fine particles is normal wear.

Sounds to me like the shift shaft spring broke. Remove the cover where the shifter goes into and check for broken tiny spring fragments.

# 1 possibility -
A shift fork is worn, or bent. The engine will have to be disassembled to repair. If you continue to ride the bike in that condition, you'll only do more damage.

Give it an oil change. These are classic symptoms of oil with poor viscosity.
