St Petersburg/Clearwater Beach...anywhere in the area. Caladesi is nice, so is Fort Desoto....but you'll LOVE
Pass-A-Grille Beach. It's an old school Florida style beach town. There are great shops and restaurants on 8th Avenue. Check out the Black Palm restaurant for awesome Latin food. There are no buildings over 3 stories tall and it's at the south end of the St Petersburg Beach peninsula so you have the sense you're someplace far away and more private. It's affordable and you won't want to leave.

Caladesii, this is my favorite beach! You take a nice short boat ride out to this state park, less crowds, beautiful beach, picnic area's, clean, wildlife, well kept, very pretty! I also like Anclote Island, if you can get there. You have to take your own boat, but it is well worth the short trip out! ( pack for an all day, and you will love it )

Any Beach in Florida. It sounds like you are from the south.
It would make no sense for you to go all the way to california, if you can go to any beach in Florida or southern Alabama.
Miami Beach is my favorite
