i have a 97 civic ex and i had the check engine light turn on. it ran fine for a few days, but just today as i was driving, i was coming up on a stop light and as i almost made a complete stop, the engine started to tremble. not alot but noticeable. it felt like it wanted to stall on me. (it's an automatic by the way). i think it would have turned off but what kept it from stalling was i had to keep giving it gas. i put it in netrual and held the gas down till the light turned green and took off. it runs fine when accelerating but it did the same thing to me at the next stop light. i made it home turned the car off and back on, and it seems fine.
any idea what needs to be done or whats wrong

If it runs fine, but idles like crap, more than likely a vacuum hose came off the intake to the engine and it's sucking air.

Start it up and listen for a high pitched sucking/whistling noise, and look around the intake for a small vacuum hose that came off.

sounds like a bad sensor, take it to autozone they will read the engine code for free and tell you what is wrong

Goto your local auto store and have them scan your computer, then the code will tell you what you need to replace..... it usually will be a sensor, oxygen, air flow...ect..... but the scan is free... so go get it scanned and then fix your car..... too easy. :)
