Guilty of murder.
and, no, I didn't commit a crime. I am a lawyer and I need to gather a few facts about things.

In most cases, bipolar disorder would not be grounds to be found not guilty. Definitely not if you have already been diagnosed before the crime. Just because you were off your meds doesn't make you blameless. Sorry.

You still know right from wrong when you have bipolar disorder, if you dont then you need to be put in a hospital and get the treatment that you need. I work with mentally ill clients who have been convicted of all sorts of crimes. I just recently sat on a jury where it was obvious that the women was mentally ill, but we were not allowed to take that into consideration. We found her guilty of a felony.

Just as much as anyone else. It probably going to depend on the judge. The prosecutor. The crime There are many mentally ill people within our jails and prisons. It is a sad fact that our jails and prisons are now this country's insane asylum.

Journalist Pete Earley has written a great book about how our mentally ill have wound up in jails and prisons. Pete wrote this book because of an experience his family went through with one of his children when he experienced a psychotic break and ended up arrested and charged with breaking and entering. In his case he was allowed a plea bargain which resulted in him being court ordered to be on medication and randomly drug tested to prove he was taking his medication as prescribed. In his case this incident probably saved him.

If your client is guilty of murder and is convicted he can be incarcerated if it proven he was not legally insane at the time.

Yes. People who suffer from bipolar disorder retain the faculty to decipher right from wrong. As that is the litmus test for a legal claim of insanity, they can still be found guilty.

Im bipolar and the answer is Yes you can and you will. It does not make you mentally incompetent. If it was for a violent crime you will more than likely be sentenced to anger medication and given a psych eval along with your terms of probation

Sure a bi polar could be tried and prove guilty of murder. A bi polar person has extreem mood swings......impulsive and hyperactive. Then they have a phase of being so depressed that they can barely do a thing. Just because they have mood swing doesn't mean that they arn't accuntable for their behavior.

I doubt if you are truely an attorney you don't need Yahoo to answer your questions. If you do I surely wouldn't want you as my attorney.
