Or would that be too Republican of them.
BTW: I disagree with both parties on more things than I agree with them, and it's obvious we don't understand the Middle east at all, but we're there, we started this mess, and we have an ethical obligation to see it through.

I'm also of the opinion that Saddam Hussein was the only stabilizing force in Iraq at the time and we didn't plan well (at all?) for what would happen after we removed him from power.

I do not believe that either party hopes of annihilation of all anywhere. And you are correct, we do not understand the Middle Eastern societies very much.

I don't know about anyone else...Democrat or Republican but I don't wish that.
This Democrat wishes that this entire mess would come to an end and we can bring our Soldiers home where they belong!
I'm not saying that we need to pull out of Iraq tomorrow but some kind of solution needs to be found because Bush's policy is NOT working!
This Iraq WAR has now gone on longer than WWII did and there is no end in sight.

I doubt very much that they hope for any such thing. They may well be hoping for a decisive defeat in Iraq, preferably one they don't have to bring on themselves in too obvious a way, since that would give them a large advantage in the next election /and/ save Hillary or Obama or whichever Democrat gets the nomination from having to conduct the war.
Besides, it'd be something of a forelorn hope: most nations in the middle east have fertility rates above replacement - growing populations in spite of the non-stop violence.

Bad question. We understand the middle east perfectly. Our oil is under their land.
You want to resolve the issue. Take the money that was spent on the Iraq debacle and give it to the big 3 oil companies. Then tell them that is there severance pay, and all of their lobbyist and special interest groups will become outlawed and the United States will be on a path of true energy reform.

I wish the U.S. would just get the hell out of the mideast and probably a lot of Africa. If they want to kill each other off, it's not our problem. Let them either live in peace or war - their choice... they're all adults. If they want to kill each other, and then come begging for help - the U.S. can help them if and when it wants to. I believe we should be working on America and not the rest of the world.

There is no seeing it through. When we leave civil war starts, end of story. For 400 billion dollars and climbing, I'll forget the ethics...

Maybe the ethical obligation is to let them figure things out for themselves without our meddling. Is it really ethical to impose our values and governmental systems on another country?

I am an independent but strongly support democrats this day in age and I don't believe that. I wish we would leave so WE would stop dying, it is not our problem to hold off their civil war which will inevitably happen even with us being there.
