Yes, I do think Italy is the best country in the world ... by a long way. Italians are the world's most cultured people - we gave civilisation to the Western world. We cook the best food in the world. We invented the table fork, the radio, the telephone and the atomic pile. Bologna University is a lot older than Oxford University and it's better. We wrote the greatest music the world has ever heard and painted the greatest art the world has ever seen. We civilised Britain when the Britons were still slapping woad on. Our films are a hundred times better than anything that comes out of Hollywood. Our women and our country are stunningly beautiful. Everyone else envies us and that's why they're always going on and on about corruption, mafia and other things they've read about in the comics that pass for newspapers here and know *nothing* about. Just keep chewing your livers, we will always be the greatest!

It's a lovely country, sure, but have you tried crossing a road there? The cars are all over the place - drivers using wrong lanes, jumping red lights, cutting up other drivers, tailgating at high speeds, etc - it's like there are no driving laws. But apart from that, yeah, it's a pretty nice country. If I had to choose to live somewhere else in Europe, it would be one of my top three choices (with France and Malta). Don't know if I would call it the best country in the world... maybe I should travel a bit more and get back to you.

I think it is futile to discuss what is the best country in the world. It is true that Italy has a wonderful history of art! It is a beautiful country topgraphically with good cooking and warm people!

Italy is pretty good out in the country.. in the larger cities it is not so good except for the touristy stuff...
I enjoyed the food there, the wine, and the liquors...
I enjoyed the houses with the "new" additions that were added 600 years ago.

When you fought on the side of Germany in WW2, you lost your position of ever being the best country in the world. Damn good soccer team though

Italy is a heavy burden to the EU, especially the ultra-corrupted south.
Ever heard of a famous Italian university ? of Italian economical strength ? Of italian honesty ?

No. Not by a long way. For a start it's corrupt by nature (see general rules around accounting or the state of the football business), the football is generally boring (although effective), lets face it - its a bit sleezy.....I could go on.
That said - Rome is very cool, as is Venice.

no, but they do have the vatican..and that is something..Italy is not a rich part of the Euro community. Like France they are on the poor side of town.
Economics is better in Germany.
