Why do TV weatherpersons go on and on when a few words would suffice- Rain tomorrow, Sunny the next day, Cloudy the next day etc. You wouldn't even need a weatherperson, just write it on blackboard or something. Instead we get 10 minutes of maps, radar, satellite pics and worst of all the weatherpersons themselves pointing, clicking and using 500 words to say what could be said in 5. And then 15 minutes later they do it all over again!

Lol...this is one of my pet peeves. I have no idea nor any interest in what is a jet stream or a low pressure system versus a high pressure system. I agree..just give us the high, the low and let us know if there is going to be any precipitation. I live in the midwest and we have a lot of thunderstorms in the Spring and it seems like everytime we get rain, the weather chumps have to break in on regularly scheduled programming to let us know there is a POSSIBILITY of severe storms. It's like the boy who cried wolf. So to answer your question, YES TELEVISION WEATHER IS OVERDONE!!

Yes. But of course it's done that way because most people like to be fed the information that way. I prefer to go on-line and read a synopsis and then click for more if I want it. Another note, I read two newspapers daily and three on Sunday so I tend not to get much information from television anyway.

A lot of people rely on detailed weather information - event organisers, sports people, people planning days out, farmers, fishermen, gardeners, businesses, emergency workers, sailers and mariners etc etc. The presentation appeals to some people, not to others. If it were summarised in just a few words there'd be a lot of people missing out on the information they need to plan and organise their day.

It makes no sense. Here in Texas they will go on and on about a little rain and wind and in the winter a little ice or snow. It is a joke and makes me change the channel every time. Quit sensationalizing !!!

Well said. And then they have to tell you about the weather in other parts of the country that's 3,000 miles away, who cares?
Why should I care about the weather in new york when I live in california?
