Yes.

Depression should not be confused with clinical depression which is a diagnosis for an individual who's symptoms have "advanced to the point of being disruptive to an individual's social functioning and/or activities of daily living."

I would not advise anyone to accept a constant state of melancholy as normal, though. It is kind of a wasted life that doesn't try to improve it's condition and the condition of others.

Melancholy or depressed the treatment is the same. Melancholy is a very mild form of depression, leading to regular depression that needs treatment medically

I have never seen the word depressed used as much before I came to yahoo answers. It is quite scary, someone says in a question they are feeling down and all the answers tell them they are drepressed and need medication (I think a lot of these are from the US) - are they a nation of drugged up zombies. feeling down every now and again - is normal! Obviously, clinical depression and post natal depression are very different matters.

yes!! theres just kind of down and then there is more serious real depression tht leads to all kinds of effed up thoughts. I think most people get a little meloncholy and then their"depressed" its over rated but as asuffer of manic/depressive I have been so uncontrollably low that ive almost killed myself... its more than just mild meloncholy its head swirling nausea inducing misery brought on for no reason.

I think that people shouldn't be labeled anything.I think that there are simple exlanations about the way people are but alot of people tend to just make up a new word to explain something.Such as the word "emo" or "depressed".I hope this helped you somehow.

Yes by nature there're people who are like that, nor should they be labled as depressed; when they feel the need to smile and laugh they do so; they're just not over joyous is all.
